Kasha Slavner: our amazing girl of the week is a 16 year old with a passion for social justice, hopeful change and visual story telling.
Kasha’s passion for transforming and bringing awareness to big issues started when she was 10 years old; she began working on campaigns and fundraisers focusing on issues she was passionate about, and joining social justice clubs to get educated on the topics and issues that affect people around the world. Over time she started to see that all of her small projects and steps were actually affecting real change, and In June 2014 Kasha decided to take a HUGE leap, she started Global Sunrise Project. She has taken a semester off of school with the blessing and support of her mother and is taking a trip around the world to make her project a reality.
Global Sunrise Project is made up of a film called The Sunrise Storyteller© and a book that will document the stories and experiences of change makers, activists and social justice warriors all over the world, who despite the circumstances they may be living in are making a real difference.
“Through my visual storytelling I will try to help educate and open people’s hearts to understand that we are all in this together and there are a multitude of creative solutions to be found.” ~Kasha Slavner
The purpose of her project is to promote hope rather than to perpetrate hopelessness, which is what a lot of the world is faced with today, “everything is just too big what can I do, really?” Who hasn’t thought something similar to that?
Kasha believes that by highlighting hopeful stories from all over the globe, where people are making change in creative ways, she will be able to empower others to do the same.
What an amazing girl Kasha is, we wish her the best of luck on her hopeful journey of change, and we can’t wait to see her film.
